Footprints

Sarah White Coat (22 of 22)-700

I wanted to thank you all for your prayers and words of encouragement these past few days. This morning around 10am my grandfather passed away with my parents by his side. We are all sad that he will no longer be here with us, but feel a sense of relief that his pain and suffering has finally come to an end. He is finally at peace and being welcomed by those that have gone before him.

I have been searching for something profound to say, but my mind is blank..........

So instead, I thought I would post this poem because it has always been a favorite.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I had a dream...
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and
Across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand;
One belonged to me, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of my life flashed before us,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
There was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life
This really bothered me, and I questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
You would walk with me all the way;
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life,
There is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why in times when I
needed you the most, you should leave me.
The Lord replied, "My precious, precious
child. I love you, and I would never,
never leave you during your times of
trial and suffering.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."

By Mary Stevenson

The picture above was taken this weekend and I almost deleted it because Sarah looked down and Pat was in the background.....I am so glad I didn't because it's as if this picture were made to acompany this poem. If only the grass were sand........

Lisa - my heart fell when I read about your grandfather's passing today. I know he is in a better place, but the death of a family member leaves such an empty space here on earth! I remember my feelings when my grandfather died - I still miss him!!

Your family is in my prayers. I love the picture & poem you chose for this post. The photo feels very magical... almost as if that is Poppop in the background watching over Sarah. Just beautiful.

And God Said…

I said, “God, I hurt.”
And God said, “I know.”

I said, “God, I cry a lot.”
And God said, “That is why I gave you tears.”

I said, “God, I am so depressed.”
And God said, “That is why I gave you sunshine.”

I said, “God life is so hard.”
And God said, “That is why I gave you loved ones.”

I said, “God, my loved one died.”
And God said, “So did mine.”

I said, “God, it is such a loss.”
And God said, “I saw mine nailed to a cross.”

I said, “God, but your loved one lives.”
And God said, “So does yours.”

I said, “God, where are they now?”
And God said, “Mine is on My right and yours is in the Light.”

I said, “God, it hurts.”
And God said, “I know.”

Ah Lisa,

I've been away too long... I'll be praying for your family during this difficult season. When my grandfather passed away a few years ago after months and months of painful illness, it was the good memories and the fun times when he was healthy, that we all mourned. That's what we missed. We knew he was finally "home," but it was still hard...
