Collage 2 Nick Yellow Leaves
I think the last time I posted photos of Nick was in June, so it has been far too long and I felt it was time to do a quick update on him.
He is well into his Sophomore year and loving every minute of it. He is thrilled with his class schedule and is learning how to balance school, work, and a social life.

We are really proud of him. He started his first job in June as the last school year came to en end. He worked all summer and has continued to work after school a few days a week and on weekends as well. He has been saving his money because he has his sights set on a car. His 16th Birthday is just a few months away and he is itching to get his learners permit.

It is very hard for me to believe that he is going to be behind the wheel of a car, but my baby has grown up and has shown us that he is starting to spread his wings and fly on his own. Being a teenager is not easy, especially in this day and age. These kids are faced with difficult choices every single day. So far, Nick has used good judgement in his choices and honestly, in the past few weeks, has had conversations with me that lead me believe he is wise beyond his years. I am so grateful that he talks to me…. I mean really talks to me and tells me what is going on in his life. He is at such critical age right now and I think it is important for him to know that he can come to me with anything even if he has made a mistake or a bad decision.

As much as I want to fight it, I have to face it, he is almost an adult and I can't keep him little anymore.
We do our best to protect him and guide him to be the best person he can be and then has to take it from there.
So my guess is that the next update you see here, he will be driving a car.
I might be requesting a few prayers to get through those first few months of being the co-pilot:)

Great photos! It is a hard time for us as parents as they grow up and spread their wings but it's what is natural and should be happening. Driving is scary, I'm not gonna lie but you get through it! Prayers being sent!!!

It's so awesome how close you two are and that he feels comfortable enough to talk to you about everything!!
He seems like a great kid with a good head on his shoulders and handsome to boot! :)

It certainly happens way too fast. I can't believe it sometimes & the separation is hard. But it's great to see them coming in to who they will be as adults.

lisa, it is so bittersweet isn't it - seeing them grow up?! our 17 year old has a girlfriend, thankfully we really like her :) my advice on the driving thing - take it slow! our son drove to school and home for about 6 months without really driving many other places. he has free reign now with the request that he texts when he arrives at his destination of course. they are big and little and it's a tough parenting job to recognize when they need us to be involved and when they don't! your handsome boy is going to do amazing! xo ellie

I'm still not ready for 16 yet! My son informed me the other day that next year he will get to sit in the front seat (can't sit in the front until age 13 around here) AND in two years he will be driving! ECK!

He is such a handsome young man, Lisa, and it sounds like he has a very good head on his shoulders, as they say around here. And wow, the colors are amazing in these photos!

I love seeing photos of Nick...he is so expressive and I can see how much he's grown with every new glimpse.

I know how much you adore him and how hard it is to let your baby spread those wings and fly but I know with you by his side he can't help but soar!

Beautiful shots of your beautiful boy!

Nick is just becoming more and more handsome and it's fun to see him AND the girls grow before our eyes. I'm not going to lie Lisa, once the kids get their liscence, their world opens up. Not a day goes by that I dont ask the Big Man upstairs to bring Austin home safe at the end of the day. THIS is the time i'm grateful for hair color! xo
