No Smiles Today

February 12, 2009

Still Sick700
It seems as though we have gone from bad to worse.........

What started out as the croup has now turned into the FLU. .....and it has turned little Sarah's smile upsidedown:(

Her cough was sounding better by Tuesday evening, but her fever was through the roof and she seemed to be in a lot pain..... her face was very red and her eyes looked really bad, she cried often and would not sleep. We were worried that she had something other than the Croup so we headed back to the doctors for visit number 2 on Wednesday.

Unfortunately we wasted a trip....The doc said it was just the flu and there was nothing he could prescribe....he said it just had to run its course and that we should continue to pump her up with liquids and motrin for the fever, aches, and pains.

This is the longest Sarah has ever been sick.....she usually bounces back very quickly, but this virus has really knocked her down. Right now she is still running a fever and not keeping food down.

Pat and I have not been getting much sleep and we are both starting to feel like we are coming down with it too.....Right now my glands feel like they are the size of golf balls and I am running a low grade fever.....

I think it is safe to say that we will continue to be housebound for the next couple of days until everyone is back in good health.

For once I am glad Nick is with his Dad.....hopefully he will remain virus free.

Not sure if I will post again before Saturday....Just in case, I wanted to wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day.....try not to eat too much chocolate:)

Aw, poor Sarah. Look at her sweet little face....
I think I would stay in the house if I were you guys too. I hope it doesn't take long to run it's course and she's back to normal fast.

Crossing my fingers you, Pat and Nick stay healthy.

Oh yikes!!! I was just getting ready to e-mail you and see how Sarah was doing...I am so sorry she is stll sick. I blame it on this warm, cold, warm, cold freakish weather we are having. Kids at my school are dropping like flies with both a stomach virus and respiratory stuff like Lia had.

Just rest as much as you can...keep drinking oj...and eat some of that famous chicken soup!!!

Poor Sarah! She looks miserable!

I hope that you and Pat don't get it, altho it sounds like it's already started. I've hard swollen glands & sore throat all week, headache, too. I slept for hours in the middle of today - wish that you could do that, too!

I am so sorry Sarah has taken a turn for the worse!!! You all need to stay hydrated and as rested as possible! It's amazing in this day and age that we really don't have many meds to fight viruses. They are nasty little bugs!

I pray that Sarah starts to feel better soon and that you and Pat DON'T get this bug.

Heather said...

Lisa - I am so sorry! It does seem to be an awful, awful virus that is circulating. We will pray for all of you and hope that you remain healthy.

Hugs,
Heather

Even sick that child is just gorgeous!

Oh, how I know about this illness! Beware because there are a few things running around out there and we have had them all. my son had strep throat and has been on antibiotics since Friday but he is still not better...it was accompanied by a migrane for days and lots of moaning (which he never did before), my daughter had the flu with fever and vomiting and some nasty diaper situations that lasted an entire week. Dr. also said nothing to be done for her...lots of whining on her part too. I have the gland thing and finally got on some antibiotics after a week and a half...thank goodness for Z-packs...even hubby has succombed to the family sicknesses and he NEVER gets sick.

I feel your pain...just REST and stay home!

Sorry to hear your little one is sick. I hate the flu... so I can only imagine how it feels when you're a toddler. Sending good healthy vibes to your household.

Julia said...

Oh that's horrible, poor Sarah. I've gotten so used to seeing photos of her smiles, it was striking to see the one you just posted, she really looks like she feels cruddy. I hope you see the turning point soon. The flu has made it's round in these parts too, my youngest had 6 kids (out of 19) out of class Wednesday and she said they spent half the day cleaning everything in the room with lysol. Not exactly how I expected her to spend a school day, but if it keeps more kids from getting sick, I'm all for it.

Laura said...

Oh Lisa. That is horrible. Please try to get as much rest as you possible can. Eat plenty of chicken soup and lots of liquids. Have you tried to give Sarah Pedialyte or Gatoraide. You want to try to keep her hydrated. Although, i'm sure you already know that.

please keep us posted.

Oh poor Sarah. We've been up the past two nights with Magnolia and fevers. Don't know what she has yet but it completely debilitates me when she gets sick (which isn't often). I hate to see her sick so I know what you're going through...:( Hope she will get better soon and thanks for the reminder to fill them up with fluids. Take care and thanks for your sweet message on my baby blog, it really made me feel better. :)

I am a new follower to your blog. I just love your photos and would love to learn some of your photo tips. I am sorry to hear that Sarah is not doing well. She looks so sad in that photo. Our family is feeling pretty yucky around here too. Our little one is just getting over being ill, and daddy, who stayed home with her when she was really bad, has now caught her yuckies. I just hope we all get better soon. We'll keep our fingers crossed that Sarah will do the same.

Deb said...

Happy Valentines day to yoiu too.
How is our dear little Sarah doing today? Have you ever heard of people putting vicks on their kids feet? Aparently it is really suppossed to help with their cough/cold.
as for the picture of her.....even if her smile is upside down, she is still beautiful.

Oh dear!! I missed a few days here and it looks like you all are having a rough time!! I'll keep little Sarah in my prayers. And I hope you all don't catch it either!!!

I hate to say it but that is a great photo of Sarah... even if it shows her to be so sad. Hopefully that smile turns back up soon!! Take Care!!

G'day from Melbourne, Australia

I came here from Meredith's blog - intrigued by your blog name, which is brilliant!

One of our kids had croup once and we were so helpless, despite the best medical attention.

I hope she's better now ....
