Summer's Almost Over....OH NO!

August 19, 2008

Somehow, it didn't hit me until this morning as I was driving into work.......I was feeling a little blue that our wonderful family vacation had come to an end, when all of a sudden I was hit with the harsh reality that our summer is almost over.....OH NO...tell me it isn't so!! How did it go so fast!

I should not complain because it has been a terrific summer and the kids have just had a blast, especially Nick, who is so thankful for all the time he and Eddie got to spend together. But I could not help but to feel a little twang as a realized the fun is almost over and the real work is just about to begin.....again!

Two weeks from today, I will be taking Nick to school for his first day and opening liturgy where we find out which teacher he will have for 5th grade. How is it, that as a Mother, I feel so nervous for the first day of school each and every year....it's as though I am the one attending. I think this is a common feeling and guess it is because we worry about our kids and always want the best for them.....and let's face it, growing up today is a lot harder, with much more pressure than when we were growing up.

Anyway, as I was sitting in my office trying to catch up with all of my clients and my boss, I started feeling slight palpatations of anxiety about all of the to-do's for back to school.

This week is going to be jam packed.....besides a full and crazy work schedule, we have dinner plans with friends visiting from out of town, and a picnic to celebrate my cousins wedding on Saturday evening....these are all fun events that I am looking forward to. That being said, I also have to schedule some time to stand online with a couple hundred other parents for school supplies, that must be purchased through our school bookstore and then make a trip to buy the special uniforms that must be purchased at a store that is literally the size of a shoe box with 3 sales people helping 50 people waiting for their child to get into a fitting room to try on uniforms....sounds like fun doesn't it!!!

Oh how I wish I was still sitting on that beach with my feet in the sand watching my children have the time of their lives!!!

I needed a little pick me up tonight, so after everyone went to bed, I indulged in a little photo editing fun, and decided to share a couple more(I know, you must be sick of our vacation photos by now, but I promise, this is it) of my favorite action shots from this past week at the beach!

This is my absolute favorite shot....this was taken last Monday after it poured for hours......finally around 3:30pm the sun came out and Nick, Eddie, Sarah and I decided to take a walk down to the beach....there was no one there and the sand was just perfect....barely any footprints in the sand, it looked so serene. Sarah just took off running, so I followed her snapping away. There is something about the expression on her face in this picture that just draws you in....It is hard to believe that the day before she screamed bloody murder because she hated the sand.....she was truly loving every inch of the beach that afternoon and it is a day I will never forget.....just me and the kids on that very calm and peaceful beach!

Oh Lisa...I love seeing the photos from your vacation...so please post as many as you would like to share with us! As for summer, I realized that too yesterday that summer was coming to an end! When I put Francesca down for bed time last night (around 8:15pm) and turned off the light in her room...it was pitch-black! A week ago, when I would turn off the lights, there was still some light coming in through her windows, but last night...it was dark! It hit me as we said our "good-nights" and close her door...that another summer had flown by...(where does the time go...)

Girlfriend, The photos are stunning! I so wish I knew how to do what you do with your photos. They always turn out looking increible.

I am so with you regarding the feeling I get the first day of school. Even though this is only her second year~ both times I have been so nervous and both times she has been so ready!!!

Hugs,

Krista

The pictures are great, love seeing them! I'm so with you about the school thing! Caitlin is starting Kindergarden in two weeks and I only have half of the supplies needed on a very specific list and her pants still need to be hemmed and stuff and new shoes and on top of all that, I'm soooo nervous for her! Good luck with the crowds of many other stressed out parents, I know I'll need it. I'm so bummed summer is very quickly coming to an end and we barely had one this year :(

Such pretty pictures!!!!! i know how you feel about the summer almost over and getting ready for back to school, YIKES!!!!!!! not ready yet and always nervous for my son because I want him to do good and be happy and school feels like so much more pressure now than when I was a kid.
Thankfully we don't have to deal with a small store for his uniform, the company comes to the school at the end of the year and measures the kids and they mail it to your house, yeah!!! Even the shoe store comes to the school in August for "shoe night", so the only thing we have to get is the supplies. I'm am thankful for this!!!!!!!!!

I am feeling bad about school starting too. We lost about a month of summer due to the nasty flood. Some schools started last week and the rest start this week. I can't believe it's over!

Of course Amelia is just in daycare, but her cousins will all be back in school now, so late evening fun for us will come to an end:(

Your photos are GORGEOUS! I have to agree I LOVE the one of Sarah as well. I was going to say it was my favorite before I read it was yours.

Okay, I'm telling you, it isn't so!I usually feel the same way after a vacation :-( School started here last week, but I don't feel like summer is almost over - it's still so hot here! Hot, muggy and wet, thank's to Tropical Storm Fay. Your pictures came out nice. You have to tell me what camera and software you use.
Best wishes,
Michaela

And hang in there. End Of Summer Blues go away soon enough. It's just a matter of getting through them.

Hi! I surfed over to your blog today and love your latest entry. What great photos, beautiful family, and words. I, too, am sad that summertime has snuck to a close for our family as well. My oldest started back to school this week and I was not ready to send him on his way... Happy day to you! Leslie
